Practicing walking

On July 6 - 23 Kelly & I will be walking from Chamonix to Zermatt. This'll be in celebration of our 10 year anniversary. A trip we wanted to do, but couldn't, for our honeymoon 10 years ago. Up until now we've been just planning, figuring out what gear to have and reserving places to stay. All of this is been very fun and hypothetical. Now that we are three weeks from going we are finally practicing walking with weighted packs and right now it is sinking in on what we are about to do. A lot of walking. Here is Kelly (& I the photographer) in our backyard practicing for the trip today.

Today we covered 6 miles and around 2000 vertical feet. Roughly about half of what we will be covering in the day on the trip. It was fun to chat it up about the upcoming trip. We discussed what we need to still do, what the trip will be like and we already thinking of the next time we should do it.

We wondered... How different will the hiking be compared to here in the Wasatch? We think the hiking itself won't be all that different. But the towns, people and the culture of the mountain living will be the big difference.

We shall see.

  1. A 6 mile hike without children!? Forget the 3 week trip, I would love to simply do THAT with my husband. Nice packs!
