La Chable - Cabane du Mont-Fort

Up, up and away. Here we are at the start:

Here is Kelly after 5,367' up:

Today was all up and the the trail builders kept it nice and steep. While it was a mostly gray day today we at least avoided the rain all day. Pack covers and rain jackets were stowed all day. A first for this trip. But the trail never quite dried out, as evidence by this drenched flower:

We think it sums up the trip so far... Really pretty and well wet.

We had a bit of a late start today due to a casual breakfast and a grocery stop. We found out later this may have been a good thing.

Hiked above tree-line and into Verbier ski resort:

And to a couple of biers.

We opted for our own dinner which turned out fantastic. Kelly rocks!!!

Upon arrival at the hut several things happened. First, it began to pour. Harder than we had seen all trip. We were very happy to be inside for that. Secondly, we heard news that the path for tomorrow's route has a fair amount of snow on each of the three high passes, like ~1' of snow. One of the three cols can be seen from the hut here (the low point in picture center):

We also heard reports of rockfall and wet slides in the area of the col. Not good. Because the weather is not forecasted to improve for another couple of days we are likely to bail and backtrack and jump ahead to Arolla.

We also heard from a father/son that started a lot earlier today that they had rain. So our late start paid off.
