Champex - La Chable

As we find our groove with our Swiss hiking holiday, maybe Don and I should assume trail names? Post your trail name suggestions in comments and maybe your suggestion will become our alter Swiss identity!

Today was billed in the guide book as a simple, pleasant valley stroll, which yes, it most certainly was, but still over 9 miles and 5.5 hours of hiking!

We begun with another rainy morning, dropped some steep vertical, then continued through rural working farmlands.

Next, we dropped into a very cool small village. It was quiet and rustic, the one grocery store closed down, everyone in for afternoon rest. But we were able to find a cafe and amazing minestrone and cream of tomato soup.

We continued onto Le Chable for an evening in the basement B and B, run by a very friendly older couple whom speak very little English. We opted for picnic dinner outside the room, ingredients purchased in the 4 minutes we had before walking into a closing grocery store. Not bad for 4 minutes of planning !

As we were finishing, the lovely older woman came downstairs with homemade dessert from cherries in her garden!! Very cool!

View from our room.

But wait, just when you are feeling jealous let me leave you with a picture sample of the hives that are covering me!

Not quite as pretty as the view from our room...

  2. Don should be "Tasche Wurst"

Marty sez "Queen Bee" for Kelly.

  3. How about "Taschenwürstle." That has two votes here.
