We headed into Chamonix to do some shopping in a light but persistent rain. While the language barrier is very apparent it absolutely has not been any trouble. We were able to find and purchase all things we weren't able to bring from home; trekking poles (16€), stove fuel, knife and most importantly - pocket sausages.

Who needs cliff blocks when you have the pocket sausage!
Seriously though. The assortment of cured meats and cheeses are fascinating and gorgeous.

The valley stroll up to Argentiere started wet upgraded to just moist and ended with a dash more rain.

We arrived to our nights stay in just over 2 hours. The hike remind us of the NW. Lots of evergreens, mossy bits, wet puddles, many swollen creeks and rivers, low canopy cloud cover, etc. But the one thing Europe has over the NW is the village. Old, small, quaint, crooked little villages. The kind that has old working water troughs, churches that are still locked with a skeleton key and has roads that are neither straight nor wide.

We opted to do a picnic dinner that was hastened by some more rain.

Our accommodations for the night:

Looks like the Alps we remember and love so much. Enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteHope you are sleeping well and that you awaken to a dry and sunny day for your next hike. Have fun.
